The War of Words -2

I want to thank Congressman Hodes for demonstrating, better than I ever could, the power of (misleading) words and phrases.  In his opinion piece, which appeared opposite my letter (of 9 July) on the subject of word selection and usage, he hit every major point in my letter.  My letter congratulated Democrats on being very adept at selecting pejorative, and deliberately misleading, words to “support” their radical views.  Congressman Hodes followed this pattern, choosing his misleading words very carefully.

And Hodes' cherry-picking was, at times, breathtaking!  His rhetoric reached its peak in the sentence “By investing in locally produced renewable energies, we can create green-collar jobs in New Hampshire and bring new industry to economically distressed communities throughout the state”.  Give that man a cigar!  He's solved all our problems with the wave of his wand.  He says that his plan will increase solar energy 20-fold, wind energy by 500% and biomass by more than 350%.  I'm not sure whether he intends to put windmills on EVERY hill in NH, but the Sentinel had an article by a wind devotee some time back that said that putting windmills on every practical site in NH would replace about 3% of the energy from Seabrook.  And what a scenic prospect that portends!

Hodes adds that his plan will reduce our carbon emissions by 83 percent by 2050.  Not to nit pick, but sensible Granite-Staters know that we have days, sometimes even weeks, with little sun or wind.  How many biomass fires will we light when that happens?

I nominate Hodes for wordsmith of the year!
